Finding People, Pattern, and Place

In 2009 I organized a textiles project in North Dakota with the help of the ND Council for the Arts -Folk Arts Program, and in collaboration with North Dakota State University -Printmaking Education and Research Studio (PEARS). Artists from three communities participated by making artwork collaboratively. The participants accepted an assignment and completed it by following the simple but specific instructions. The prescriptive nature of this assignment was intended to guide people towards their own collaborative artistic experience. Participants also contributed a square of fabric to be joined with other community collaborators in a 'quilt' print. Three 'quilt' prints were screen printed by PEARS.
