Sweet Dreams |
A project in collaboration with Jefferson High School for Portland Community College Cascade Campus whiteness history month, April 2016.
|
Jefferson High School art students talked together with community members, artists, and Jefferson Alumni in a frank discussion about the school's name, it's history, connection to whiteness and the issues of societal change. Neighborhood artist Anne Greenwood, Jefferson alumni Clifford Walker, Jefferson High School art instructor Amy Hargrave, and Jefferson duel-credit art students worked together for one month to design and make a colorful, hand-dyed, machine-embroidered, prayer-flag art installation for the Cascade campus that includes messages appropriated or based on the group discussions. These messages are offered up as blessings for our societal change and transformation.
